2023 Elections: INEC hold new elections in 7 Abia Local Government Areas

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that new Presidential and Parliamentary elections will be held in Abia’s seven Local Government Areas on Monday.

This was stated by the Administrative Secretary of Abia’s INEC Mr. Clement Oha, speaking to reporters in Umuahia on Sunday.

He said elections would take place by 8 am at several polling stations in the Local Government Areas of Aba North, Aba South, Arochukwu, Obingwa, Osisioma, Ohafia and Umuahia North.

According to him, the new elections were as a result of varying degrees of procedural deviations, quite severe.

He further said that the reported skirmishes in the affected polling units during Saturday’s election necessitated the fresh polls.

“The commission in their wisdom felt that the credibility of the election should not be compromised, and that there should be no winner by default.

“So, elections must take place in the affected polling units tomorrow (Monday),” he said.

Oha said the affected polling units had already been communicated.
