Engineering Community Rallies Behind Borno State, Offers Support Amid Alau Dam Flood Disaster

In a heartwarming display of compassion and unity, the presidents of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN) paid a condolence visit to Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, following the devastating Alau Dam flood disaster.

Led by NSE President, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, the high-level delegation conveyed their deepest sympathies to the Governor and the people of Borno State, who have been severely impacted by the disaster. The catastrophic flooding has claimed numerous lives, displaced thousands, and ravaged homes, businesses, and essential infrastructure.

Governor Zulum welcomed the delegation, acknowledging their timely intervention and expressing gratitude for their support. “Your visit is a testament to the engineering community’s commitment to national development and resilience building,” he stated. “We appreciate your generosity and expertise during this critical time.”

Engr. Oguntala emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the disaster’s aftermath. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Borno State, offering our expertise and resources to aid in the recovery process,” she said.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, Shehu Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, who praised their gesture. “Your presence here today demonstrates the engineering community’s dedication to humanitarian causes and national development,” he noted.

This compassionate response from the engineering community underscores their commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting resilience in the face of adversity.
