VP Shettima Lands In New York, Set To Champion Nigeria’s Interests At 79th UNGA

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has arrived in New York to represent the nation at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This significant event brings together world leaders to tackle pressing global challenges.

Shettima’s presence is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to global cooperation and sustainable development. As directed by President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and engage in high-level meetings.

Upon arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport, Shettima was warmly received by notable dignitaries, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani; and Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Inuwa.

The 79th UNGA session marks a pivotal moment in the global pursuit of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Summit of the Future, held during UNGA, emphasizes the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation to address climate change, poverty, inequality, and global health crises.

As global leaders converge, Shettima’s participation underscores Nigeria’s dedication to SDGs and the UN Charter. The summit aims to reaffirm commitments and lay the groundwork for a revitalized multilateral system.

The UN Department of Global Communications will host the SDG Media Zone, featuring in-depth interviews and dialogues on pressing global issues. This platform provides an opportunity for Nigeria’s voice to be heard on the world stage.

Shettima’s attendance demonstrates Nigeria’s readiness to engage with the international community, foster cooperation, and promote peace and development.
