Edo Election: PDP Rejects Results, Alleges Irregularities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a bold stance, formally rejecting the Edo State Governorship election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This decision was made public during a press conference in Abuja, led by PDP acting National Chairman Umar Damagum.

Damagum emphasized the party’s dissatisfaction, stating, “We categorically reject the outcome of the election as announced by INEC, citing compelling evidence of manipulation and irregularities.” He urged concerned Nigerians to join the PDP in contesting the results, asserting that their candidate, Asue Ighodalo, is the rightful winner.

The Edo State Governorship election has been marred by controversy, with various stakeholders raising concerns about the electoral process. The PDP’s rejection of the results adds fuel to the fire, sparking intense debate and speculation about the election’s legitimacy.

Reactions have been pouring in from key figures:

Peter Obi, a prominent political leader, described the Edo election as a stark example of “state capture,” highlighting the need for electoral reform.

Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate, alleged that his mandate was “brazenly stolen,” echoing the party’s concerns about electoral irregularities.

In contrast, Sanwo-Olu congratulated Monday Okpebholo, the declared winner, urging him to “make victory count” for the people of Edo State.

As tensions rise, Nigerians eagerly await the outcome of the PDP’s petition and the subsequent actions of INEC and other stakeholders.
