Airtel Nigeria Moves To Harness Power Of Solar Energy To Fuel Infrastructure

In a bold move to mitigate the crippling effects of rising diesel prices, Airtel Nigeria, one of the country’s leading telecommunications companies, is harnessing the power of solar energy to fuel its infrastructure.

The company’s staggering ₦28 billion diesel expenditure has prompted a shift towards renewable energy, aligning with its broader strategy to reduce operational expenses and enhance sustainability. This forward-thinking approach addresses Nigeria’s persistent energy challenges, ensuring uninterrupted services for Airtel’s vast customer base.

According to Airtel Nigeria’s Director of Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, the company’s records reveal a significant spike in diesel costs as of May. In response, Airtel’s Chief Technical Officer, Harmanpreet Dhillon, emphasized the importance of exploring alternative energy solutions.

“We are committed to reducing our reliance on diesel generators and embracing solar power to drive our operations,” Dhillon stated. “This strategic move will not only minimize our environmental footprint but also enhance our resilience in the face of Nigeria’s energy challenges.”
