House Of Reps Set For Summit To Tackle Security Challenges

The House of Representatives has announced plans to convene a landmark security summit, tackling Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas made the announcement during today’s plenary session, emphasizing the need for collective action.

“The summit will bring together key stakeholders, including the executive, security agencies, experts, and civil society organizations, to address legislative reforms and strengthen our security institutions,” Abbas explained.

The focus areas will include:

  • Enhancing inter-agency collaboration.
  • Leveraging intelligence in combating insurgency and banditry.
  • Community policing strategies.
  • Border security.
  • Integrating advanced technology into national defense.
  • Commending recent security successes, Abbas noted, “The military has neutralized over 150 terrorists and major bandit kingpins.”

He emphasized collaboration with the executive arm, saying, “We will work in harmony to secure economic stability, enhance security, and foster national development.”
The House has achieved significant legislative milestones, passing 89 bills, with 1,351 introduced.

Priorities for the coming months include economic reforms, youth empowerment, healthcare, infrastructure, and education.
