NSE President Aina Meets With Minister Of State For Petrol Over Nation’s Energy Transformation

In a groundbreaking move, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has joined forces with the Federal Government to propel Nigeria’s energy transformation. NSE President, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, recently met with Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Rt. Hon. Epkeriko Ekpo, to forge a collaborative path forward.

Oguntala emphasized the pivotal role Nigerian engineers play in driving the country’s sustainability agenda. “By harnessing local engineering expertise, we can unlock innovative solutions to propel Nigeria’s energy growth,” she stated. The NSE President advocated for a robust partnership to ensure successful implementation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and domestic gas adoption.

In response, Minister Ekpo expressed unwavering support for the collaboration. “We recognize the value of Nigerian engineers in educating the public about CNG’s benefits, particularly in reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency,” he noted. The Ministry is committed to partnering with the NSE on capacity-building initiatives, ensuring professionals are equipped to install CNG infrastructure safely and efficiently.

This strategic partnership aligns with Nigeria’s ambitious energy goals, addressing climate change challenges in critical sectors like agriculture. Initiatives such as the Presidential Gas for Growth Initiative offer fiscal incentives for gas utilization, positioning Nigeria for energy growth. The NNPC and NIPCO have already commissioned 12 CNG stations, making CNG approximately 40% cheaper than petrol.

The collaboration will focus on empowering local engineers to drive Nigeria’s energy transformation. By combining expertise and resources, the NSE and the government can create a sustainable energy future, fostering economic growth and environmental stewardship.

As Nigeria embarks on this transformative journey, the partnership between the NSE and the government serves as a beacon of hope. By engineering a greener future, Nigerian engineers are poised to make a lasting impact on the nation’s energy landscape.
