In a remarkable display of humility and accountability, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), apologized for his previous statement that Christians who don’t pay tithe might not make it to heaven.
Addressing a youth congregation at the ongoing RCCG Youth Convention in Lagos, Adeboye described his earlier comment as a “mistake” and clarified that peaceful and holy living are the true prerequisites for entering heaven.
“I was wrong to say that paying tithe is a requirement for going to heaven. The Bible says, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God,'” Adeboye emphasized.
Adeboye, a scientist by training, illustrated his point by citing the evolution of scientific understanding, noting that even well-established concepts can be refined or corrected.

He also shared a personal anecdote about a businessman who pledged to give 90% of his earnings to God, achieving remarkable success and inspiring Adeboye to reevaluate his own giving.
“From that day on, I increased my giving beyond 10%. It’s wrong to limit oneself to 10%,” Adeboye said, encouraging the congregation to adopt a more generous and spirit-led approach to giving.
This apology and clarification demonstrate Adeboye’s commitment to spiritual accuracy and integrity, setting an example for leaders and believers alike.
