Obasanjo Debunks Death Hoax on Social Media, Lauds Adeleke’s Development Drive

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Nigerians to reject baseless social media rumors, describing false reports of his death as deeply hurtful. Speaking in Osogbo during the commissioning of a key road project, he emphasized the dangers of misinformation and the need for responsible use of technology.

“I woke up to shocking news claiming I had died,” Obasanjo said on Tuesday. “It was upsetting, but I assured my family and friends not to worry. Those wishing me dead will not have their way.”

Obasanjo criticised the rapid spread of unverified news, calling it a misuse of technology. “This behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on society,” he added, while speaking in Yoruba. He urged people to act responsibly online.

The road commissioning event highlighted Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s efforts to improve infrastructure. Obasanjo commended Adeleke’s leadership, describing his achievements as “extraordinary.” The governor, who has faced skepticism in the past, has silenced critics by delivering significant development projects.

“When Adeleke took office, some said he was just a dancer, but he has proven to be both a great performer and a capable leader,” Obasanjo noted. He predicted Adeleke’s re-election, citing his dedication to public service.

The newly completed Old Garage-Oke Fia-LAMECO road was renamed in honor of the late Abdulfatai Adekileku Ajani Badmus, a respected figure in Osogboland. Governor Adeleke pledged to continue making history through impactful governance. “Our legacy will be remembered as one of service to the people,” he said.

The road project is part of Adeleke’s broader agenda to modernize Osun State’s infrastructure, ensuring growth and improved living standards for future generations.
