China, Gabon to consolidate mutual trust, expand cooperation

China is ready to work with Gabon to implement the important consensus achieved by the two heads of state, consolidate strategic mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, and promote the China-Gabon comprehensive partnership to a higher level, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Thursday.

He made the remarks when meeting with Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba in Libreville, the Gabonese capital.

Noting that the friendship between China and Gabon was forged by the old generation of leaders of the two countries and has been tested through the time, Qin pointed out that the two sides will firmly support each other in safeguarding the core interests and major concerns, upholding the basic norms of international relations, and securing international justice and equity.

Qin also introduced the essential requirements and distinctive features of Chinese modernization and stressed China’s willingness to provide aid in sectors like exploring a development path in line with Gabon’s own national conditions and realizing the strategic plan of “emerging Gabon 2025”.

During the meeting, Bongo expressed gratitude for China’s all-round support in Gabon’s economic and social development and hailed China’s development philosophy. He also said that Gabon is looking forward to cooperating with China to strive for the well-being of the two peoples, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, and make African countries’ voice heard in international governance.

Qin Thursday also met his Gabonese counterpart Michael Moussa Adamo.
