Manchester United & Crystal Palace charged by FA after player brawl

Manchester United and Crystal Palace have been charged by the Football Association (FA) following a fracas in their Premier League match at the weekend.

In the 67th minute, the incident was sparked by Jeffrey Schlupp’s late challange on Antony, which left the United’s winger on the pitchside advertising board.

Casemiro, Fred and many other home players were removed before they began pushing and shoving with the help of Jordan Ayew, Michael Olise, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

The FA have charged both teams on an allegation of failing to “ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour”.

The incident also saw Casemiro sent off after VAR spotted the United midfielder grabbing Will Hughes around the throat, landing him with a three-game ban.

On Thursday, it was confirmed that United face a further charge of allegedly failing to “ensure players refrain from violent behaviour”.

Both clubs have until Monday, February 13 to respond.

Erik ten Hag made clear his disappointment with the decision to send Casemiro off but decided against an official appeal, later explaining “I don’t think we have a chance”.
