Hoodlums Invaded Polling Unit, Destroy Ballot Boxes In FCT, Abuja

Suspected hoodlums raided Dagiri Polling Unit by Madam Mercy Road in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), destroying some ballot boxes in all the units in the area during the Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

They were said to have arrived the polling unit during the ongoing voters’ accreditation and voting and chased both the INEC officials and voters away.

INEC Adhoc staff, Itejabi Joe, who spoke with AFLM said, “Hoodlums were fortified and when they came we ran away because the security personnel around weren’t armed, so we ran away.

So, when they came, we’ve no option than to run away and that’s why they destroyed some of our properties. If you can see but none of our members is injured. So for now we’ve accredited further than hundred people. ”

One of the voter was heard lamenting losing her voter’s card during perdition that ensued. Others said that whatever happens, they must still cast their votes.

The security personnel who arrived at the scene later appealed for calm and told the INEC officials to continue with the voting as there would be no more problem.
