African Youths have been charged to take their place as leaders, equip themselves and activate innate talents as a measure for socioeconomic, political and national development.

The Convener of one of Africa’s largest human development platform- Thinkation, Dr. Unyime-Ivy King, made this known at a recent press conference held at the National Headquarters in Lagos. Dr Ivy King stated that personal development would enable them maximize their entrepreneurial abilities thereby creating opportunities that would be beneficial to their immediate environment, the larger community and boosting the nation’s GDP.

At the media parley which was attended by other officials from the Thinkation Tribe, ahead of Thinkation 2024, organised by Ubong King Foundation, with the theme ‘Switch It On’ which holds this Saturday 27th, the Convener further stressed on the need for young people to be weaned from a dependency mindset to a more responsible, reliable and productive mindset.

While speaking, she made reference to Nigeria and how highly devalued the Naira has been due to the rising dollar exchange rate, and how on the political scene there’s been so much political tidal waves. Dr Ivy King says, on a daily basis, major events that disrupt the economic stability of the country and the continent at large, keep breaking out. It takes a lion heart for one to venture into entrepreneurship in Africa and most especially in Nigeria in the face of such debilitating circumstances.

“Africans all over the world, are celebrated for being well educated and for their high and excellent performances in the educational spheres, but sadly, a lot of her communities, remain impoverished and underdeveloped. The challenges are not caused by what we do not have, but what we have failed to utilise because our thinking process is impaired by a mindset that only thinks of today. One that lives for the here and now, thus lacks futuristic thinking!” she added.

According to Dr King, a mind that has been trained to think critically, is one that has been stretched and can take on challenging situations and think through to working solutions. Thinking critically and thinking through is a critical component for success.
“THINKATION is a creative merger of THINKING + EDUCATION. She further said, We believe that thinking is the missing component in our young minds and businesses today and that is why we are painstakingly putting this event together to challenge parochial mindsets and provoke critical thinking processes.
