JUST IN: Legal Action Taken Against Abuja School by Victim of Bullying

Namitra Bwala, a student who gained attention from a widely circulated video showing her being bullied, has taken legal steps against Lead British International School in Abuja, suing for N500 million in damages.

The viral clip, shared by an X user, on April 22, showcases Bwala enduring harassment by classmates, one instance involving physical assault while she is questioned about a personal matter.

The lawsuit, brought before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, under case number FCT/HC/CV/2341/24: MISS NAMTIRA BWALA v LEAD BRITISH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL LTD, accuses the school of failing to maintain a secure environment conducive to learning.

Marvin Omorogbe, representing Bwala, detailed the suit’s objectives to hold the school accountable for negligence connected to the bullying incident.

Bwala, through her legal representatives, also demands a public apology to be issued by the school in two national daily newspapers, in addition to the hefty sum of N500 million as general damages.

This legal action aims to initiate preventive measures against future similar neglectful situations within the school setting.

The legal team highlighted their client’s desire to leverage the case as an impetus for substantial change, ensuring more robust protections for students in educational institutions.
