NAFDAC Issues Public Notice on Withdrawal of Caro White Skincare Product

The Nigerian National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has published an urgent notification concerning the recall of Caro White Skin Lightening Beauty Lotion, which is produced in Ivory Coast.

NAFDAC has informed the general populace about the European Union (EU) Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX) decision to recall the Caro White cosmetic lotion.

The cause for alarm stems from the detection of Kojic Acid at concentrations surpassing the permissible 1% threshold defined by the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS), which suggests potential harm including endocrine-disrupting effects.

Details for Caro White Skin Lightening Beauty Lotion:

  • Product Name: Caro White Skin Lightening Beauty Lotion
  • Manufacturer: Unspecified
  • Batch Number: LB2.1790.B
  • Barcode: 6181100538892
  • Product Category: Cosmetic

Despite the product not being listed within the NAFDAC database, the advisory extends to all supply chain participants, including importers, wholesalers, retailers, and individual consumers, to remain cautious and vigilant to prevent the dissemination, retail, and usage of the recalled product.

All parties are advised to rigorously assess the product’s legitimacy and physical integrity. Anyone in possession of the Caro White lotion is instructed to cease sales or personal use and to deliver any inventory to the closest NAFDAC office.

Health professionals along with consumers experiencing adverse effects from using Caro White Lotion are urged to report the occurrences to the nearest NAFDAC office.

All reports can also be communicated through pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, through various e-reporting platforms accessible at the official NAFDAC website or via the Med-safety application available for download on both Android and IOS devices.
