Renowned Boko Haram Commander Surrenders Alongside Five Dreaded Insurgents

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has witnessed the surrender of six combatants from the extremist faction Boko Haram, including a high-ranking commander within the group.

Yesterday, May 23, these individuals definitively abandoned their militant activities, submitting to military forces.

In an official release today, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, who serves as the Chief Military Public Information Officer for the MNJTF, provided details on this significant event.

The commander in question, Adamu Mohammed, along with fellow insurgents Isah Ali, Hassan Modu, Nasir Idris, Abba Aji, and Abubakar Isah, whose ages range from 18 to 23, handed themselves over. Notably, Nasir Idris once acted as escort to another leading figure within the terrorist group, Jubillaram Usman Rash.

Abdullahi’s statement disclosed that these insurgents fled from a hideout of the ISWAP faction inside Jubillaram, located in South Lake Chad. Specifically, 22-year-old Adamu Mohammed was a participant in multiple terror operations in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State, Nigeria.

Upon surrender, the group relinquished a stockpile of weaponry, including 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and an anti-aircraft munition. These former militants are now subject to ongoing investigation.

In a broader scope, since the onset of Operation Lake Sanity II on April 23 this year, Abdullahi highlighted that a total of 119 militants have abandoned their factions, signaling a progressive trend and encouraging other members to select peace over conflict.

Abdullahi seized this opportunity to urge remaining insurgents to demilitarize and join the peaceful trajectory. The MNJTF continues its dedicated mission to foster security and promote a stable climate within the Lake Chad Basin area.
