In a substantial infrastructure development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially opened a new 600-meter bridge in Akwa Ibom State, much to the delight of residents in the Ibeno and Eastern Obolo areas.

Undertaken by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the completion of the Iko-Atabrikang-Akata-Opolom-Okoroutip-Iwouchang road, specifically the eleventh section, culminates nearly two decades of construction effort designed to connect no fewer than twenty communities along its path.

During the bridge’s inauguration, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, representing President Tinubu, highly commended the NDDC’s management for their one-year tenure’s substantial impact on the lives of Niger Delta citizens.

A Revolutionary Development for Local Communities:

He celebrated the board’s achievement stating, “The successful creation of a new route to Ondo’s five local governments via the Okiti-Pupa substation and the establishment of this bridge revolutionizes access for the communities previously divided by the Qua-Iboe River, sparking a new era of economic and educational progress.”

The President noted the adverse effects of extended oil extraction in the region, advocating for the Commission’s focus to empower and better the lives of those within the area.

An Outcome of Assertive Commitments:

In line with the sentiments expressed by the President, Minister for Niger Delta Development Engr. Abubakar Momoh attributed the bridge’s completion to a performance pledge made with the President, asserting that this accomplishment is a direct result of that resolve.

He emphasized the bridge’s importance, anticipating a significant infusion of economic activity into the previously isolated communities it now connects.

Governor Umo Eno, represented by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Ayakenyi, applauded the NDDC for their unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of life for the Niger Delta’s residents, reaffirming his administration’s support for the President’s leadership.

Closing the event, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Sam Ogbuku thanked the President for his support, aligning the timing of the commissioning ceremony with the President’s overarching vision of renewed hope for the region.
