President Tinubu Lauds Wike Leadership Acumen Despite National Challenges

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has praised the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his “exceptional leadership” during what he described as a challenging period for the nation. This commendation came during the ceremonial inauguration of a roadway in the Guzape District of the FCT, where Wike was recognized not just for his leadership qualities but also for his ability to fulfill commitments.

In remarks captured by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu acknowledged the difficult circumstances the country has been navigating, particularly in economic terms. “It’s been a trying time for us, and we’re in the process of revamping our financial system to uplift the Nigerian people. Minister Wike has shown his capability to unite, guide a team, and convert promises into actions. His efforts are truly commendable,” said the President.

The road project, initially embarked upon in 2003 with an allocation of N14 billion, was split between Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company Nigeria Limited and Gilmor Engineering Limited. Wike highlighted the government’s commitment to continuity, a principle applauded by President Tinubu, who reiterated that governing is an ongoing process.

Wike detailed the journey of the project: “We saw Dantata’s withdrawal from the site, but thanks to the President’s approval, we were able to reconvene and continue with the construction.”

Adding to his portfolio of leadership initiatives, Minister Wike has ventured into addressing environmental concerns by leading a waste management overhaul in the FCT. This was particularly emphasized in his keynote at the 2024 World Environment Day. Speaking on behalf of the minister, his environmental advisor, Fred Kpakol, drew attention to the escalating waste management crisis in Nigeria, highlighting Abuja’s vulnerability.

The focus of Wike’s environmental strategy is to blend infrastructural advancement with sustainability. By integrating green technologies and enhancing climate resilience, the Minister envisions an FCT that not only thrives in modern times but also preserves its environmental integrity for future generations.
