Malawi Military Aircraft Carrying Vice President Still Missing.

In a distressing development from Malawi, a military aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine other passengers has been reported missing. The government confirmed the aircraft failed to land as expected on Monday morning, sending shockwaves across the nation.

According to an official statement, aviation authorities have been unable to establish contact with the aircraft following its disappearance from radar screens. The plane, which was en route since just after 9:00 AM local time (0700 GMT), has prompted a nation-wide concern for the safety of those onboard, including Vice President Chilima, aged 51.

In response to the worrying news, President Lazarus Chakwera has mobilized both regional and national forces to embark on an immediate search and rescue operation. The president, who was slated for a working visit to the Bahamas, has put his trip on hold, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

This incident comes after a turbulent period for Vice President Chilima, who was entangled in a graft investigation last year related to bribery allegations with a British-Malawian businessman. Although he faced charges and attended several court hearings, these were ultimately dismissed by a Malawian court last month.

As the search for the missing aircraft intensifies, the nation holds its breath, hopeful for the safe return of its vice president and the other passengers.
