In a significant appointment within the Kwara State academic sphere, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has named Professor Jimoh Shaykh-Lukman as the new Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University. The announcement was made by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, who cited Shaykh-Lukman’s impressive performance during the institution’s rigorous selection process as a standout reason for his appointment.
“His credentials and vast experience in university administration and academics position him as a highly qualified candidate for this role,” explained Ajakaye.
Shaykh-Lukman, who hails from Igbaja in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, had previously assumed the role of acting vice-chancellor after the demise of the former vice-chancellor, Prof. Mustapha Akanbi, in 2022. His prior experience also includes serving as the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 2020 to 2022.

In parallel developments, Governor Abdulrazaq has also authorized the elevation of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, to a University of Education, signifying the state’s commitment to academic advancement and the adaptation of its educational institutions to contemporary standard practices in education.
“The state government is dedicated to the ongoing enhancements of the remaining colleges of education, aligning them with the present-day educational sector dynamics,” Ajakaye stated in the address.
This educational expansion comes shortly after the governor’s approval of legislative measures for the establishment of both the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital and the Kwara State University of Education.
