Cape Town Residents Urged To Prepare For 72 Hour Water Supply Shutdown

Residents of Cape Town are being advised to prepare for a 72-hour water supply shutdown affecting 22 areas, particularly on the Cape Flats. The City of Cape Town has announced this necessary pause in service to accommodate significant maintenance work set to begin on Monday, June 24, concluding at midnight on Wednesday, June 27.

The shutdown is part of the city’s commitment to upkeep and enhance its water supply system. Mayco member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, outlined the purpose of the maintenance, highlighting the replacement of five critical valves within the network. “This shutdown is necessary to allow for the replacement of five valves in this network. It enables us to conduct crucial maintenance work safely on this vital section of our water supply network,” Badroodien explained.

Acknowledging the inconvenience this may cause to residents, officials stress the importance of this temporary measure. Delaying such maintenance could present a higher risk of significant disruptions to the city’s water supply in the future. “We’re conducting this work over time to minimise the impact on residents as much as possible,” assures Badroodien. The city places a high priority on ensuring the sustainability and reliability of its water infrastructure.

Residents affected by the upcoming shutdown are urged to make necessary preparations to mitigate the impact of the water supply interruption. The City of Cape Town apologizes for the temporary inconvenience and thanks its citizens for their understanding and cooperation during this critical maintenance period, aiming for long-term benefits and the continued provision of quality water services.
