Popular Comedian In Malawi Sworn In As Vice President

In a recent ceremony in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital, Michael Usi, a well-known comedian-turned-politician, has been officially sworn in as the country’s vice president. Usi, who gained fame for his role as “Manganya” in the TV sitcom Tikuferanji, steps into the position following the tragic death of Saulos Chilima in a plane crash earlier this month.

During his inauguration speech, Usi expressed a blend of sorrow and gratitude, vowing to honor Chilima’s legacy. His appointment has elicited mixed reactions among the Malawian populace. Some citizens are skeptical about his suitability for the vice-presidential role due to his background in comedy, while others commend the president for preserving the political alliance that brought them to power.

Previously, Usi served as the deputy to Chilima and played a crucial role in forming an electoral coalition with eight opposition parties, including President Chakwera’s party. Before being named vice president, Usi held the position of Malawi’s minister of natural resources and climate change.
