US lawmakers French Hill and Chrissy Houhalan have joined the chorus calling for the immediate release of Tigran Gambaryan, a detained Binance executive, following their prison visit to him. Gambaryan, an American citizen, was arrested in February on charges related to money laundering and unlicensed financial activities. Despite Nigerian authorities dropping the charges against him and shifting the focus to Binance as the sole defendant, Gambaryan remains in custody due to the ongoing money laundering case involving his employer.
During their prison visit, Hill and Houhalan expressed concerns about Gambaryan’s health, highlighting his battle with malaria and double pneumonia, exacerbated by inadequate medical attention. This advocacy for his release echoes the sentiments of sixteen American lawmakers who previously called for his freedom. Additionally, a group of former US prosecutors, including those who had collaborated with Gambaryan, urged the release in a letter addressed to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken earlier this month.
