President Tinubu Approves Upgrade Of Ibadan Airport To International Standard

President Bola Tinubu has given the go-ahead for the transformation of Ibadan Airport into an international airport, as announced by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Wednesday.

Governor Makinde expressed satisfaction with the progress made in upgrading Ibadan Airport, Alakia, to an international standard, with plans set to commence within the next three weeks.

The announcement was made during a meeting between Governor Makinde and Air Marshal Hassan Baba Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff, held at the Executive Chamber, Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

The project, as outlined by the governor, will encompass the construction of a new terminal, runway, and other essential infrastructure, all to be executed by skilled professionals to meet required standards.

Governor Makinde highlighted the strategic importance of upgrading the Ibadan Airport in driving economic growth, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s infrastructure and economy over the past five years.

Furthermore, Governor Makinde revealed that the President has graciously approved the request for the upgrade of Ibadan Airport, with plans to kickstart the project within three weeks by expanding the runway and constructing a new terminal.

The governor also acknowledged the efforts of the Air Force in collaborating with sister security agencies to maintain security in Oyo State, affirming the administration’s dedication to completing the road leading to the Air Force Base in Ajia, Ibadan.

In response, Air Marshal Abubakar praised Governor Makinde as a visionary leader and commended his support for the Air Force’s economic and security initiatives. He urged expedited action on the ongoing Ajia-Airport Road project to facilitate smoother operations for the Air Force while assuring continued support and collaboration with the state.
