Tunisia Plans To Hold Presidential Election October 6th 2024

Tunisia is set to hold its presidential election on October 6, 2024, according to a statement from President Kais Saied’s office. The election comes amidst political turmoil and economic hardship, with Saied’s consolidation of power leading to widespread criticism.

Saied, who took office in 2019, has governed through decrees since 2021, imposing a presidential system and limiting parliamentary powers. The move has resulted in the imprisonment of critics, a crackdown on the media, and a stagnant economy with high unemployment and poverty rates.

Despite efforts to secure international aid, Tunisia’s political situation has hindered progress. However, the European Investment Bank recently offered grants and loans to support infrastructure projects and small businesses.

As the election approaches, Tunisians face uncertain times, with many seeking better opportunities in Europe. The outcome of the election will be crucial in shaping the country’s future.
