Nurses In Kaduna Embarks On Warning Strike, Halts Healthcare Services

In a bold move, nurses in Kaduna State have embarked on a five-day warning strike, bringing healthcare services to a grinding halt.

The industrial action, led by the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), is a response to the state government’s failure to implement the 2009 Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and hazard allowance for health workers.

As the strike enters its second day, patients are being discharged from hospitals, and medical care has come to a standstill. The absence of nurses has created a crisis in the healthcare system, leaving patients in a precarious situation.

The NANNM is demanding the payment of outstanding allowances and the implementation of the CONHESS salary structure, which has been pending for years.

Despite promises and committee reviews, the government has failed to fulfill its commitments, leaving nurses feeling frustrated and neglected.

With healthcare services paralyzed, the strike has brought attention to the long-standing issues faced by health workers in Kaduna State. The nurses are resolute in their demands, and the strike is a testament to their determination to fight for their rights.

As the situation unfolds, the people of Kaduna State are left wondering when healthcare services will resume, and the fate of patients hangs in the balance. Will the government heed the nurses’ demands, or will the strike lead to a prolonged crisis in the healthcare system? Only time will tell.
