President Tinubu Sets Up Federal Minister Of Livestock To Address Farmer-Herders Crisis

In a landmark move, President Bola Tinubu has announced the creation of a dedicated Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, tasked with addressing the perennial farmers-herders crisis that has plagued Nigeria for years.

This bold initiative aims to foster peaceful coexistence, enhance economic prosperity, and ensure the security of all Nigerians.

“The entire livestock value chain issues can be addressed holistically rather than what is going on now at the National Assembly, working to create a bill for Animal Husbandry or Ranching.

“Ranching is just an aspect of livestock; instead of going for ranching, why can’t the president create a full-blown ministry for livestock so that all the value chain related to livestock issues can be addressed holistically by that ministry?” – Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzarma, MACBAN President.

By establishing this new ministry, President Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to resolving the lingering crisis and promoting a more sustainable and harmonious relationship between herders and farmers.

The Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms, chaired by the President himself, will work tirelessly to overhaul the livestock industry and devise long-term solutions to the recurring clashes.

This development is a testament to the government’s dedication to listening to the concerns of all stakeholders, including the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), which had urged the president to create a Ministry of Livestock Development.

With this bold step, Nigeria is poised to witness a new era of peace, prosperity, and economic growth in the livestock sector.
