Body Of Former Senate President Wayas Returns To Nigeria

In a poignant moment for family, friends, and political associates, the remains of former Nigerian Senate President Joseph Wayas have finally arrived in Abuja, marking the end of a prolonged wait of two years and nine months.

Wayas’ body was received with emotional tributes at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, bringing closure to a period of uncertainty and speculation surrounding his final resting place.

According to Senator Jarigbe Agom and Peter Akpanke, political representatives from Wayas’ senatorial district, “We are relieved and happy that his remains have finally returned home.”

The delayed return of Wayas’ body was attributed to “logistical and bureaucratic challenges,” but his loved ones and community are now preparing for a fitting farewell.

Wayas, who served as Senate President from 1979 to 1983, left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political landscape.

His wife, who passed away shortly after him, was laid to rest earlier, and the return of his body brings a sense of completion to the mourning process. As preparations for his burial get underway, tributes continue to pour in for a life dedicated to public service.
