Corps Members In Ekiti Injured As Wall Collapses At NYSC Hostel

A shocking incident occurred at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Ise-Emure, Ekiti State, yesterday, when a wall in the female section of the hostel collapsed, injuring several corps members.

According to sources at the camp, the bathroom wall caved in while the corps members were preparing to take their bath. “Yes, the wall of one of the female hostels collapsed this morning.

“It was the bathroom wall which caved in when they were planning to take their bath. But thank God, people rushed down there to retrieve them from the rubble. They have been stabilized at the clinic and they will get further medical treatments.”

Despite the severity of the incident, NYSC officials have downplayed its impact.

“Only two corps members were affected and have since been stabilized at the camp’s clinic,” said an NYSC spokesperson. “We urge parents, guardians, and stakeholders not to panic, as the situation did not have a serious negative impact on the corps members.”

However, this incident highlights the deplorable state of the camp’s infrastructure, which has been a cause for concern for a long time. “Despite repeated calls for renovation, the camp’s infrastructure remains in a state of disrepair,” said a source. “It’s a miracle that no one was killed in this incident.”

The corps members are currently undergoing a three-week compulsory orientation exercise at the camp. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and welfare of corps members in the camp.

“This incident is a wake-up call for the authorities to take urgent action to address the deplorable state of the camp’s infrastructure,” said a concerned citizen. “The safety and welfare of corps members should be the top priority.”
