Lagos Plans To Ban Danfo, Korope Buses On Lekki-Epe Route

In a bold move to transform the transportation landscape of Lagos, the state government has announced a comprehensive plan to ban Danfo and Korope buses along the Lekki-Epe corridor, effective October 1, 2024.

This revolutionary step is part of the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI), a sweeping effort to modernize public transportation and enhance the commuting experience for Lagos residents.

The ban on Danfo and Korope buses is specific to the Lekki-Epe corridor, a critical transportation artery in Lagos and the reform introduces mass transit buses to the corridor, promising a more efficient and comfortable commute.

It must be noted that Danfo buses that meet Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) standards will still be permitted to operate, but as mid-capacity buses and also, Korope buses meeting the required standards will be integrated into the First Mile Last Mile (FMLM) services, serving interior roads from Obalende/CMS to Ajah.

Operators who fail to comply with the new regulations will face fines and risk having their vehicles confiscated.

* Restructure commercial bus operations: The reform aims to reorganize commercial bus operations, promoting a more efficient and comfortable commute.

* Enhance passenger experience: The introduction of mass transit buses, e-ticketing system, and designated routes will significantly enhance passenger comfort and streamline operations.

* Reduce congestion and gridlock: The reform promises to reduce congestion and traffic gridlock, making commuting faster and more efficient.

* Improve safety and security: The reform will enhance safety and security for passengers, with a focus on vehicle inspection standards and operator compliance.

The Implementation timeline is in October 1, 2024 by which the Ban on Danfo and Korope buses along Lekki-Epe corridor takes effect.

Also, Mass transit buses will be introduced to the corridor, replacing Danfo and Korope buses and the e-ticketing system will be launched to streamline operations and enhance passenger comfort.

Designated routes will also be assigned, and compliance will be strictly monitored.

The Lagos State Government’s decision to ban Danfo and Korope buses along the Lekki-Epe corridor marks a significant milestone in the transformation of Lagos’ transportation landscape.

The Bus Reform Initiative promises a more efficient, comfortable, and safe commute for Lagos residents, and its successful implementation will be a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens.
