GAVI To Send Cholera Vaccine To Nigeria

In a welcome development, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) has announced that cholera vaccines will soon be arriving in Nigeria to combat the ongoing outbreak.

GAVI’s CEO, Sania Nishtar, confirmed the news, expressing the organization’s readiness to collaborate with UNICEF and WHO to mitigate the crisis.

Nishtar stated, “We stand ready to work with our partners, UNICEF and WHO, to support Minister Muhammad Pate, Nigeria’s federal ministry of health, and the NCDC’s timely efforts to contain this outbreak and protect those at highest risk.” She also reassured that despite the large number of cholera outbreaks this year, GAVI’s stockpile is now fully replenished, and production continues at maximum capacity.
