Senate Moves To Investigate Economic Sabotage, Summons Dangote, CBN, NNPCL, Others

The Senate has taken a bold step to investigate alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum industry, summoning key players, including Dangote Group, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, to testify before an ad-hoc committee.

The 14-member committee, established on July 23, aims to uncover the truth behind billions of euros spent on turnaround maintenance at state-owned refineries over the last decade.

The committee’s chairman announced that contractors responsible for the refineries’ maintenance will be summoned to a public hearing on September 10.

The committee will also embark on a fact-finding mission to Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Warri to engage with major industry players.

Committee members have vowed to tackle the sector’s deep-seated problems, promising that “business as usual” will no longer be tolerated.

They have also warned that arrest warrants will be issued to any agency head who refuses to appear before the committee, signaling a no-nonsense approach to the investigation.
