Lagos Building Collapse Records Five Deaths

A catastrophic building collapse occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning at Arowojobe Estate in Maryland, Lagos, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of five lives.

The incident, which happened at approximately 3:49 a.m., involved a three-terrace building under construction, where a team of construction workers were busy at work.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), a distress call was received promptly at 3:49 a.m., and a response team was swiftly dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival, the team found a devastating scene, with a three-terrace building having collapsed, trapping workers under the rubble.

The rescue operation began immediately, with a combined team from LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire Service, and the Nigeria Police working tirelessly together to search for survivors.

LASEMA’s excavator was deployed to expedite the search and rescue efforts, and after a thorough search, five male construction workers were confirmed dead.

Two injured workers received on-site medical treatment, while three others were taken to Gbagada General Hospital for further treatment.

Two additional workers were stabilized and ferried to the Trauma Center at Gbagada.

The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit was contacted to handle the deceased, and an investigation into the cause of the collapse is currently underway.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for strict adherence to building safety standards to prevent such devastating losses.
