Nigeria Govt. Moves To Alleviate Hunger Crisis, Offers Relief On Food Items, Suspends Import Duties

In a bid to alleviate the widespread hunger crisis gripping the nation, the Nigerian government has announced a temporary reprieve from import duties and taxes on crucial food items.

This move aims to make basic necessities more affordable for the masses and combat the escalating hunger crisis.

According to Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, “We are committed to implementing this measure seamlessly to address the problem of hunger in our nation.”

He emphasized the government’s dedication to easing the financial burden on its citizens, acknowledging the impact of global inflation on Nigerian households.

Adeniyi highlighted the need for government intervention to alleviate the financial strain on citizens, stating, “We recognize the severity of the hunger crisis and are taking proactive steps to address it.”

By removing import duties and taxes on key food items, the government seeks to reduce costs and make essential goods more accessible to the population.

In addition to the tax suspension, the NCS is streamlining export processes to facilitate the seamless flow of Nigerian goods into international markets.

This includes implementing advanced ruling systems, authorized economic operators, and a time-release study to enhance trade and create new economic opportunities.

Adeniyi also underscored the NCS’s commitment to preventing the smuggling of arms and dangerous weapons through Nigeria’s borders, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation among Nigerians to address current challenges and strengthen the country’s borders.

This move comes as Nigeria grapples with a severe hunger crisis, with millions facing food insecurity.

The government’s response aims to provide relief and support to those affected, demonstrating its commitment to addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
