Chaos Erupts As Police Fire Teargas On Protesters At Lekki-Toll-Gate

The Nigerian police have fired tear gas canisters at protesters gathered at Eagle Square in Abuja and the Lekki toll-gate area of Lagos State.

The protesters, who were exercising their constitutional rights, were met with force as the police attempted to disperse them.

Eyewitnesses report that the scene was chaotic, with protesters fleeing in different directions and scrambling for safety.

The police claimed they were enforcing a court order restricting protesters to Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, but the protesters insisted on their right to assemble peacefully.

As the situation continues to unfold, reports emerge of protesters being unbothered by the tear gas, while others were forced to flee.

The police directive to protesters in Lagos to join others at designated locations was met with defiance, leading to the deployment of tear gas.

The nationwide protests, sparked by economic hardship and calls for good governance, have seen demonstrators take to the streets in various cities.

The use of force by the police has raised concerns about the government’s commitment to democratic principles and the right to peaceful assembly.
