Protesters Declare 3-Day Mourning Period For Killed Demonstrators

Organizers of the ongoing “End Bad Governance” protests in Nigeria have announced a three-day mourning period to pay tribute to their colleagues who lost their lives during the demonstrations.

The mourning period, which commenced on Wednesday, August 7, and will end on Friday, August 9, includes an X (formerly Twitter) space, a public symposium, and a candlelight procession.

The decision was made to honor the memories of protesters who were killed by security agents during the protests, which began last week.

The protests, which have been ongoing in various parts of the country, aim to draw attention to alleged poor governance and the increasing cost of living in Nigeria.

Ayoyinka Oni, Hassan Soweto, and Adegboyega Adeniji, on behalf of the protest’s organizing committee, stated that the three-day mourning period is a testament to the sacrifices made by their fallen colleagues.

The committee also emphasized the need for accountability and justice for those responsible for the deaths.

The mourning period serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of the protests and the determination of the protesters to bring about change in Nigeria.
