Abia Govt. To Set Retirement Age For Nurses For 65

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced plans to extend the retirement age for nurses in the state from 60 to 65 years.

This move is part of the government’s efforts to revamp the health sector, a priority area of the administration.

The governor made this announcement during his monthly interactive session with newsmen at the Government House, Umuahia.

In addition to this, Governor Otti revealed that the state government has concluded arrangements to establish a state-of-the-art medical city.

A committee has been set up, and a location has been identified for the project, which will be realized in collaboration with two international medical missions, Extended Hands and Lifted Hands organizations.

The governor expressed his commitment to the project, stating that it will be one of the signature projects of his administration, aimed at reversing medical tourism and attracting patients to Abia State.

Governor Otti also highlighted the state’s financial stability, noting that the government has operated without borrowing money so far.

He mentioned that the government is exploring facilities from the African Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank Group to support its development projects.

The governor also touched on the achievements of his administration in various sectors, including agriculture, where the government has successfully recovered concessioned plantations.

He thanked the residents of Abia State for their support and urged them to continue working together to build a new Abia.
