WAEC Withholds 215,267 Results Due To Examination Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the withholding of 215,267 results from the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) due to various cases of examination malpractice.

This represents 11.92% of the total 1,805,216 candidates who took the examination.

According to Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of the Nigeria Office, WAEC, the cases of malpractice are being investigated, and reports will be presented to the appropriate committee for consideration and final decisions. He emphasized the need to sanitize the system, stating that “all hands must be on deck” to address the issue.

The withheld results are 4.37% lower than the 16.29% recorded in the WASSCE for School Candidates in 2023.

Dr. Dangut also revealed that 73.79% of candidates obtained credit or above in a minimum of any five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.

Candidates affected by the decisions can seek redress for their malpractice cases via the WAEC website.

The Council will continue to sanction all cases of examination malpractice, emphasizing that such practices undermine the educational system.

The 2024 WASSCE results have been released, and candidates can access their results on the Council’s results website.

Copies of the Result Listing will be sent to schools shortly.
