FG Implements Health Screening Protocol To Curb Spread Of Mpox

The Federal Government of Nigeria has implemented a new health screening protocol for incoming international travelers in response to the outbreak of a new, more virulent strain of monkeypox (mpox) in several African countries.

All passengers arriving in Nigeria are now required to fill out a health declaration form online before departing their location or upon arrival.

The form requests personal information, travel history, health status, and contact details for the 21 days preceding their arrival.

This measure aims to prevent the spread of mpox, monitor the possible importation of infectious diseases, and aid in the control of disease outbreaks, ultimately protecting the health of all Nigerians.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reports that at least 16 African countries have been affected by mpox, with 38,465 cases and 1,456 deaths recorded since January 2022.

The World Health Organization is considering declaring an international emergency due to the outbreak.
