Super Falcons Hold Steady In FIFA Rankings, Retain Top Spot In Africa

Despite a disappointing outing at the Women’s Summer Olympics in Paris, France, the Nigerian senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, have maintained their 36th position in the latest FIFA global rankings.

The team also retained its status as the top-ranked women’s football team in Africa.

The latest rankings, released on August 16, 2024, saw the Falcons hold steady despite their poor performance in Paris, where they suffered three consecutive defeats and failed to progress to the quarterfinals.

Nigeria’s ranking remains unchanged, with the team still ranked 36th globally and 1st in Africa.

The top 10 women’s football teams in the world, according to the latest FIFA ranking, are led by the United States, followed by England, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Korea DPR, and France.

The Super Falcons’ retention of their top spot in Africa is a testament to their consistency and dominance in women’s football on the continent.

However, the team’s performance at the Olympics highlights areas for improvement as they look to regain their footing on the global stage.
