ASUU Threatens To Embark On Nationwide Strike, If FG Fails To Meet Demand

The Federal government has been given a 21 days ultimatum by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to meet their demands or face another nationwide strike. The NEC took the decision at the end of its meeting held in Ibadan.

The notice, an ASUU source said not a threat but a stipulation of the statute governing labour relations.

The union insist that the avaunt-garde interception lecture and Renegotiate Agreements, Academic Allowances and Poultry Funds must be implemented.

ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated that the government has failed to implement the agreements, including the payment of accumulated academic allowances and the release of revitalization funds.

He also expressed concerns about the proliferation of universities without adequate funding.

The notice is expected to be transmitted to the Federal Ministries of Labour and Education.

If the government fails to address the demands, ASUU will embark on a nationwide strike after the 21-day notice period.
