In a bold move to demand action, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a 7-day warning strike, commencing today at 12 am.
This drastic measure comes after the abduction of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna State, nearly eight months ago.
NARD President, Dr. Dele Abdullahi, confirmed the strike, stating that it would be a total shutdown with no concessions or emergency care provided during the period.
The decision was made during an Emergency National Executive Council meeting, highlighting the urgency and gravity of the situation.

Dr. Popoola’s kidnapping on December 27, 2023, along with her husband and nephew, has sparked widespread concern among the medical community.
While her husband was released in March, Dr. Popoola and her nephew remain in captivity, prompting NARD members to protest across tertiary hospitals nationwide, demanding her safe return.
This strike serves as a wake-up call to the authorities, emphasizing the need for swift action to ensure the release of Dr. Popoola and address the growing concerns about the safety and security of healthcare professionals in Nigeria.
As the strike begins, the nation holds its breath, hoping for a swift resolution to this crisis.
