Canadian – Nigerian Woman Arrested For Threatening To Kill Yoruba, Edo People

In a shocking display of hate and intolerance, Amaka Patience Sonnberger, a 46-year-old Canadian-Nigerian woman, has been arrested and charged with uttering threats after posting online content that threatened violence against specific members of the Nigerian community.

Sonnberger’s menacing words, spoken mainly in Pidgin English, vowed to “start poisoning the Yoruba and the Benin… Put poison for all una food for work. Put poison for una water, make una dey kpai one by one.”

The Toronto Police Hate Crime Unit is investigating the case as a suspected hate-motivated offence, and Sonnberger is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Prominent Nigerians, including Peter Obi and Abubakar Atiku, have condemned the incident, calling for swift justice and emphasizing the need for unity and tolerance in the face of such divisive actions.
