In a poignant announcement, Sunday Abe, the revered captain of Sunshine Stars, has bid farewell to professional football after an illustrious 18-year career.
With a heart full of gratitude, Abe reflected on his journey, saying, “After thoughtful consideration, I’m announcing my immediate retirement from professional football after about two decades of active service as a player.”
Abe’s eyes sparkled with nostalgia as he recounted his experiences playing for his boyhood club, Sunshine Stars, and representing Nigeria in various international tournaments.

He fondly remembered his time with Teuta Durres FC of Albania and the honor of playing for Nigeria’s U-17 AFCON and World Cup qualifiers, as well as the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.
As he embarks on a new chapter, Abe’s passion for football remains unwavering. He declared, “No matter the circumstances, football is still part of me… I will be ever ready to give everything off the field.”
With two coaching certificates already in hand, Abe is poised to leave an indelible mark on the beautiful game, even in retirement.
