Edwin Clark Calls For Arrest Of Wike Over Rising Political Tensions

In a dramatic turn of events, Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent leader of the Ijaw nation, has demanded the immediate arrest of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his inflammatory threats to “set fire” to states governed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors.

Clark, in a press conference today in Abuja, described Wike’s comments as “flagrant disrespect to the person of President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him” and added that they were “unbridled” and tantamount to “treason” as they were capable of inciting violence in the country.

“‘The words of the minister mark a flagrant disrespect to the person of President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him’,” Clark said, emphasizing the gravity of Wike’s actions. “‘His comments are unbridled and a form of treason as it is capable of inciting violence in the country.’

Clark drew parallels with the arrests of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, and #EndBadGovernance protesters, who were detained for similar offenses. He urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to take swift action and arrest Wike, compelling him to retract his statements.

The situation has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for restraint and calm in the face of escalating political tensions.

As the drama unfolds, one thing is clear: the political landscape in Nigeria is becoming increasingly volatile, and the consequences of Wike’s actions remain to be seen.
