NLC President Ajaero To Face Interrogation On 25th Sept

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, is set to face a crucial interrogation session with the police on September 25, amidst allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.

Ajaero’s initial invitation to appear at the police headquarters in Abuja yesterday, Thursday, alongside the NLC Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, did not materialize, as they failed to show up. Instead, they wrote to the investigators, requesting a postponement of the interrogation.

According to Ajaero’s counsel, Femi Falana (SAN), “We wrote for another date as Comrade Joe Ajaero has an engagement outside Abuja today.”

The police are investigating Ajaero’s alleged link to a Briton, Andrew Wynne, who is accused of financing the recent #EndBadGovernance or #Hunger protest in the country to allegedly overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.

The police invitation to Ajaero stated, “In furtherance of investigations into the alleged case of criminal intimidation, conducts likely to cause breach of public peace and malicious damage to properties in which your name featured, you are requested to come along with Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja for an interview…”

As Ajaero prepares to face the police on September 25, the labour movement and civil society organizations are watching with bated breath, eager to see how the situation unfolds.

The outcome of this interrogation could have far-reaching implications for the labour movement and the future of protests in Nigeria.
