Tragedy As Petrol Tanker Explosion Claims Over 30 Lives, 50 Cattle

A devastating petrol tanker explosion has occurred in the Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State, resulting in the loss of over 30 human lives and 50 cattle. The tragic incident happened on Sunday, September 8, 2024, around 12:30 am, along the Lapai-Agaie road, approximately 2km from Dendo Community.

According to the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Abdullahi Baba-Arab, the petrol tanker collided head-on with a trailer truck carrying travelers and cattle from Wudil, Kano State, heading to Lagos. Two other vehicles, a crane truck and a pickup van, were also caught in the fire.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed that more bodies remain trapped inside the vehicles, and search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
