Ghanaian Activist Protests Against Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill In Accra

In a bold display of solidarity, Texas Kadir Moro, Executive Director of Arise for Justice International, concluded a series of solo demonstrations against Ghana’s controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill in Accra on Thursday, September 12.

Moro, who identifies as an ally, not a member of the LGBTQ+ community, marched through the streets with placards nailed to a cross, bearing messages like “Justice begins where inequality ends” and “Judging others on their sins is simply an act of arrogance and pride.”

The bill, which increases penalties for same-sex activities and criminalizes the promotion, advocacy, and funding of LGBTQ+ ideology, has been widely condemned by human rights groups and foreign actors. Despite being passed in parliament, it remains stalled in the Supreme Court due to legal challenges to its constitutionality.

Moro’s marches, which began in April and continued in July, aim to raise awareness about the discriminatory nature of the bill and its devastating impact on the LGBTQ+ community. He emphasizes that everyone deserves equal rights and dignity, regardless of their sexual orientation.

As the bill’s fate remains uncertain, Moro’s courageous activism serves as a beacon of hope for a more inclusive and accepting Ghana.

His actions demonstrate that even one person can make a difference in the fight against discrimination and inequality.
