Building Collapse Traps Students, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

A sense of dread settled over the student community in Ekosodin, Edo State, today’s morning as a devastating building collapse rocked the area.

The incident occurred on Ekhator Street, Benin, during the early morning downpour, leaving a trail of destruction and despair in its wake.

The building, a popular residential hub for students attending the nearby University of Benin, was reduced to rubble, trapping several students inside. The sound of screams and cries for help filled the air as rescue efforts sprang into action.

“It was like a nightmare come true,” said a student who witnessed the collapse. “We were all in shock, but we knew we had to act fast to save our friends.”

With the university’s rescue team leading the charge, emergency responders worked tirelessly to evacuate the trapped students. Some were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, while others remained trapped beneath the debris.

As the rescue efforts continue, the Dean of Student Affairs is on the scene, coordinating the operation and providing support to the affected students. The State Fire Service has also deployed three trucks to assist in the rescue mission.

The cause of the collapse remains unknown, and the university management has yet to release an official statement.

However, one thing is clear: this tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety and structural integrity in buildings, especially in areas with high student populations.

As the people of Edo come to terms with this devastating incident, our thoughts are with the students and families affected. We can only hope for a miracle and pray that those still trapped will be rescued safely.
