Abuja to Experience 15-Day Power Outage Starting January 6 – TCN

Residents of Abuja are set to face a 15-day power outage from January 6 to 20, 2025, due to essential infrastructure work. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the outage, which will affect parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The planned power cut, scheduled from 9 am to 4 pm daily, is necessary for the relocation of transmission towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line. The work is part of the Federal Capital Development Agency’s (FCDA) road dualization project aimed at modernizing the Outer Southern Expressway, which is expected to improve transportation efficiency in Abuja.

In a statement, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, explained that the outage would impact major areas, including Kubwa, Karu, Maraba, Nyanya, Masaka, and parts of the Lugbe and Trademore Estate areas. These areas will experience power rationing during the period.

The relocation of eight transmission towers and the restringing of power cables are vital for the completion of the road project. TCN assured the public that power would be restored as soon as the work is finished, though they acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outage.

The development of the Outer Southern Expressway is expected to play a significant role in boosting urban growth and improving traffic flow in Abuja, providing long-term benefits to the city’s infrastructure.

TCN also expressed regret over the temporary disruption, offering apologies to residents and assuring them that every effort would be made to complete the work swiftly.
